Abstract

We have evaluated the chromatic dispersion compensation for a long-haul WDM transmission. A 4 channel optical network was modeled, simulated and analyzed at a 600 km distance using two chromatic dispersion compensators i.e. fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and dispersion compensated fiber (DCF). Subsequently the modulation scheme and also the traffic load are varied to determine the robustness of the compensators to sustain the changes imposed on the lightwave optical system.
