Abstract

This paper presents thermal modelling of a Lithium-ion battery module designed to power a fully electric ferry. The operation requirement is to recharge the battery energy storage system within 13 minutes. This presents a thermal management problem with the battery generating excessive heat whilst charging at a rate of 3.45C. To mitigate this problem the battery was analyzed using the ANSYS Fluent software under various cooling methods applied.
