A recursive Bayesian approach to load phase detection in unbalanced distribution system

Abstract

This paper introduces a recursive Bayesian approach to identifying the phase connection of a single-phase load in unbalanced distribution systems. This method operates through comparing the measurement errors in distribution system state estimation (DSSE) of different models in the model bank, which contains all possible modes of phase connection. As a first step, numerical study based on IEEE 13-node test feeder is conducted to illustrate the accuracy and computational complexity of the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm successfully identifies the phase connection of the unknown single-phase load in a few iterations.
