Education for the Dual Role Responsibilities of an Access Services Librarian

Abstract

The change in attitude from acquisition to access requires a new kind of librarian. What are the skills needed by "access librarians?" What kind of leadership role will they play in library service? Are libraries ready for these changes? How can library-schools make a curriculum out of the skills needed for access and leadership? If properly prepared, new visions of access will come from librarians to lead the field into the twenty-first century.
