Abstract

Agriculture despite its absolute dependence on rain has remained the backbone of food production as well as economy of many Nigerians especially the rural dwellers. However, the current global climate change and insect pests attack have led to decline in agricultural productivity. These have led to limited food availability, access and adequacy especially protein-mineral deficiency as well as decline in the economy of many Nigerians. This review is aimed at evaluating or appraising entomology which is the science of studying and manipulating insects to human advantages as a solution to the short fall in food production as well as a mean of empowering Nigerians in order to attain sustainable food security and economic diversification amidst continuous decline in revenue from the country’s petroleum products.
