Abstract

One of drawbacks in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique, which has been adopted in many wireless standards, is high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). It will result in higher complexity of the analog-to-digital converter and lower efficiency of the high power amplifier (HPA). A variety of methods have been published for the PAPR reduction in OFDM systems, such as selective mapping (SLM), partial transmit sequence (PTS), clipping, coding, and dummy sequence insertion (DSI), etc. Among them, DSI is a method without any side information and changing signal wave shape. The DSI structure is a method that decreases peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal by inserting a dummy sequence. This paper proposes a dummy sequence generation algorithm, generating a low power dummy sequence with one by one padding test, for DSI method to reduce the processing complexity and effectively mitigate the PAPR problem in OFDM systems. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method performs better than that of the conventional methods.
