Abstract
In this work the authors suggest a method for calculating surface danger zones in mortar fire. This problem plays a major role in the operation of this weapon, mainly out of safety considerations for operating troops and uninvolved civilians. The study presents a systematic methodology for calculating the danger zones according to the specific shooting scenario, unlike using a fairly strict danger zones as has been customary so far. The method is based on a combination of analyzing the ballistic flight and the probability of impact at a certain point and studying fragmentation characteristics around it. This combination defines a contour that describes the danger area that best suits the scenario according to the permitted risk level.
