Abstract

It was a cold Monday morning, in November, with nothing above Chicago but a thick grayness that passed for a sky. The view from Victoria Fouche’s large living room bay window looking out onto South Parkway showed an occasional car going by north or south; but mostly what Victoria saw were the women walking by going to the bus stop, half a block north of her white stone house....
