Play Therapist Qualities: A Document Analysis of Current Literature

Abstract

ABSTRACT The emphasis on evidence-based interventions in mental health can take the focus away from other considerations such as what makes the intervention effective. In this study, we aimed to identify themes present in current published literature regarding key qualities and attitudes of play therapists. We completed a document analysis of 16 articles and book chapters related to play therapist qualities and identified 10 themes. These themes are defined and implications for future research discussed.
