Abstract

Extremely broadband superluminescent diode applications are expanding. We investigated the design and optimization of broad spectral width super luminescent diodes (SLDs) with asymmetric multi quantum well (AMQW) active region. The arrangement of QWs and the cavity length were investigated in this research. The number of QWs was determined by the material gain and the spontaneous rate of QWs and their arrangements in the active region. To improve the QW arrangement, the optimized cavity length was determined. Final structure has a stable spectral shape with spectral width>100nm.
