Abstract
Due to the hazardous exhaust emissions from diesel engines, an extensive research is going on to reduce these harmful emissions. Fuel emulsion is one of those solutions that can be implemented. The main focus of this study is to formulate water-in-diesel (W/D) fuel emulsion and investigate its properties. The fuel emulsion is formulated successfully by adding varying concentration of water, a blend of Span 80 and Tween 80 surfactants with high speed homogenising mixing. The analysis of physical properties of stable emulsions is carried out in terms of viscosity, density, etc. It is investigated that 10% W/D emulsion shows almost the same properties as that of pure fuel. This formulated W/D emulsion is stable even at slosh and vibration. It has a very less evaporation rate than that of pure fuel. It is noncorrosive even after 30 days of contact time with mild steel and copper.
