Abstract

Reliability of electric power supply is an important requirement in the modern world. Reliability is virtually taken for granted in most developed countries. This is not the case in a developing country where many projects compete for the available monetary resources. This paper illustrates how basic probabilistic techniques can be applied to generation and transmission system planning in a developing country. The concepts are illustrated by application to a model of the Nepal power system.
