Abstract
In the paper there are a complex estimation of environmental situation in the enclosed administrative divisions (ZATO) of the Russian Federation using ecological stress index. The research based on authors-gathered database, composed of open data by Rosvodresursy, Rostechnadzor, EMEP modelled air depositions and concentrations, USGS EarthExplorer. Using cluster analysis, two different typologies of the ZATOs was made. With the help of this methodic, the specialization was described as the main determinant of the ZATO environmental situation. The other findings are: ZATOs make pressure on water resources and radiation level. From the territorial point of view, Krasnoyarsky krai, European North and Ural are the areas of high ecological stress ZATOs concentration and the best environmental situation is in Novouralsk. The major part of Russian ZATOs, according to the results, have better and stable environmental situation.
