EMF Applications in Cosmetics and Wellness

Abstract

Currently cosmetic and wellness devices do not fall under medical regulation. It is unknown, whether consumer-devices using electromagnetic fields as therapeutic agent pose a health hazard. In this paper, we present preliminary results of a study investigation the issue. Overall, there is limited evidence for health risks. However, further studies regarding electric muscle and brain stimulation as well as neuromodulation are needed to ensure the safe use of these devices. Otherwise, regulations have to guarantee that only educated personnel carry out certain therapies.
