Shielding Characteristics of Honeycomb Filters

Abstract

T h e E M I / R F I s h i e l d i n g p r o v i d e d by h o n e y c o m b f i l t e r s are a f u n c t i o n of ma ny variables. These variables include the cell size of the honeycomb material, the thickness, t h e h o n e y c o m b m a t e r i a l c o m p o s i t i o n a n d fabrication methods, as well as the impedance between the honeycomb material and the frame, and bet w e e n the fr ame and the chassis. The s e l e c t i o n of the v a r i a b l e s u s e d ( in the fabrication of the filters is usu al ly dictated by cost an d/or c o n v e n i e n c e p e r t a i n i n g to f a b r i c a t i o n methods, at the expense of the shielding effectiveness of the filter. This p a p e r e v a l u a t e s th e v a r i o u s f a b r i c a t i o n met h o d s used in the m a n u f a c t u r e of filters , some testing to s u b s t a n t i a t e the f a b r i c a t i o n methods evaluated and specific conclusions.
