Abstract

In this course we’ll study different views the ancient Greek philosophers had about the soul, which they understood as the source and principle of life and cognition. We will look at the views of Plato, Aristotle, Hellenistic Philosophers and some representatives of late antique philosophy. The topics to be studied will include the relation between soul and body, the problem of immortality, the role of the principle of life and mind within the cosmos, the nature of animal and human cognition, sense perception, imagination, memory, thought, desire, animal and human activity in accordance with desire, psychology of action. We will learn about some classical discussions of these topics.
