Abstract

Along with large-scale of renewable generation integration, energy storage systems (ESS) as the flexible resource become one of essential components in the power systems. Power spot market provides the necessary market environment for ESS to gain revenue as an independent and competitive market participant. In the paper, an evaluation method of scale requirement of ESS for the purpose of renewable generation accommodation is proposed. The scale projection method of commercial ESS projects based on the energy arbitrage revenue in the power spot market is proposed to estimate the possibility of satisfaction of the required scale of ESS. A long-term power spot market simulation model is utilized to simulate the clearing of the power spot market, as well as the operation of power system including ESS.
