HUMOR UNDER REPRESSION: THE FATE OF THE WRITER YUKHYM GEDZ IN THE CONTEXT OF STALIN TERROR

Abstract

The article is devoted to the life and creative activity of the little-known humorist writer. Yukhym Gedz. His real name was Oleksii Savytskyi and he worked in the 1920s-1930s in the genre of social and political feuilleton. He was one of the most famous satirists of that period. Yukhym Gedz tried to realize his creative potential also in drama, but did not find great success. Analysis of the writer’s archive-criminal case allows reproducing not only the last months of his life, but also showing the methods of the NKVD “work”.
