Functional ODE Observers for A Class of Descriptor Systems

Abstract

This paper addresses the problem of functional observer design for a class of linear time-invariant descriptor systems, which are not necessarily square. A new set of sufficient conditions for the existence of observers is established in terms of system coefficient matrices. The observer is realized by a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The approach is purely algebraic, and a numerical example is provided to illustrate the design algorithm.
