Abstract
: Due to its abundance and diversity, soils require procedures aiming to characterize it and to determine its application and behavior. Therefore, the present work compares the variation in soil and cement mixture (2% and 4% at different ages) as well in soil and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) mixture (0.5% and 1%), as well as assessing the increase in the maximum tensile strength obtained from the improvements. The soil was collected and tested in accordance with the requirements proposed by The Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (BANT), in order to characterize it from specific mass and particle size tests. In addition, tests of compaction and resistance to axial compression were performed for each addition. With this, it was possible to carry out a comparative analysis between the variations of the optimum mixture content, the maximum breaking stress as well as the stress x strain behavior. It was
