Abstract

A large number of new energy sources have been installed into regional power grid, and new requirements are put forward for the optimal configuration of conventional generator’s grid-related protection. This paper focuses on the optimal setting of overspeed protection and loss of excitation protection, which have important influences on the frequency and voltage dynamic characteristics of power system. High frequency dynamic characteristics and loss of excitation features of thermal power units are analyzed for the regional power grid which separated from the main grid. The optimal setting strategies of overspeed protection and loss of excitation protection are presented, which are suitable for the instability risk of regional power grid including new energy.
